Sorry. The Pocket Pony definition sounds like my dog with separation anxiety. She follows me from room to room, and after two years she’s relaxed enough to seek out other people.

Oh! No, it's not a separation anxiety thing. Some horses just really, really like people. It is a characteristic amongst some Arabian bloodlines, and since Marker is at least half-Arabian, if not full Arabian, it's very likely he comes from one of those. Tradition says that the Bedouin kept their prize horses in their tents with them as a potential foundation for this temperament characteristic. Arabians with this characteristic tend to be sensitive little souls and really want to please their people. To some extent it has been bred for because a horse with this temperament is easy to train and will try their best to do their job.

But I've known non-Arabians with the same pocket pony characteristic--and I've known them from birth, and there's no anxiety involved. Non-Arabians like this don't tend to be quite as sensitive as the Arabian version, but they just plain are 1100 lbs Golden Retrievers. All the same, if you ask them to do something, they will do their best to please you.

What is a "pocket pony?"

Pretty much what it sounds like. A horse who would happily curl up in your back pocket. Affectionate and wanting to get as close to you as it can.
