With my damaged brain, I'll have to wait until the mainstream trilogy is finished and published (first two books are up, third under construction - should be done in another five years).
There is no way I can do adequate promotion and ANY publicity until my tiny bit of daily energy can go somewhere other than writing - attempts in that direction have FAILED.
Then I see a post about how much you expect of yourself - which jives with what the SP gurus recommend - and I KNOW I'm going to have to find another route.
You said it somewhere: quantity over quality.
I don't value quantity - and I couldn't write it if I tried. But I DO value work with actual merit, so that's what I work to produce. Some day - some place - that will be enough.
Or not.
Plenty of small-oeuvre writers in the traditional publishing world; I aim to be one in the SP world. Haven't figured out HOW to be its Margaret Mitchell or its Harper Lee, but at least that's a reasonable aim.
I keep trying a course every once in a while - can't make it through the first day. But the writing - ah, the writing! That I can do.
Joyce, as I launch into my first set of books I fondly recall how supportive you were sharing a table with me a couple Miscons ago. I don't know if you remember, but it was very helpful and I just wanted to mention how much I appreciated that :-) (D.L. Solum www.dlsolum.com )
Joyce, you are far ahead of me. I'm still trying to get the courage to start my Substack newsletter. I'm thinking "Reclaiming Whimsy, Reclaiming Wonder." We all need, or maybe it's just me, a little wonder and whimsy right now.

The writing is what matters. No matter what. The writing matters.

Oh thank you, Dan! So glad to hear it.

Good luck on the promotion! You'll do great.
Thanks, Stephanie. It's at the point where I HAVE to do this. Those stories are too good to just let molder away...
